Spring Break

Pilar and I spent last week traveling through Big Sur and up in Tuolumne County. Our first night, we went through Santa Barbara and stayed at El Capitan State Beach. The camping fee was $45! Outrageous. We only spent one night there, though, and were on to the next adventure.

We spent our time heading north, and took the 1 through Malibu and had beautiful weather. We stopped at our favorite dog park in SLO and got some bomb avocado tacos at Taco Temple in Morro Bay. Before making the trek up to Prewitt Ridge (our campsite in Big Sur), we stopped to do the quick hike up Salmon Creek to see the falls.

We then began our leisurely drive up the coast, enjoying the views. We headed up Nacimiento-Fergusson Road, a one lane winding road through Los Padres National Forest. At the top of the hill, we turned down a forest service road and began our adventure through the forest. We found our intended destination, Prewitt Ridge Campground, without too much trouble and began setting up camp. When we showed up, the top of the ridge was encased in storm clouds, but luckily we got a couple hours of sunshine just after we arrived. From our campsite, you could see south along the coast, and what we think was Sand Dollar Beach below.

The clouds soon rolled back in, so we bundled up and enjoyed the fire and some tasty bacon grilled cheese before a pretty chilly night. The next morning, we again enjoyed some sunshine and clear views before the encroaching storm blew in. We decided to head home a day early to avoid the rain to come.

We continued our way up the coast and back to Tuolumne County, racing the coming storm.

We made it home in time for Josie's birthday and got to see most of Pilar's family and eat some delicious grub while the snow started to fall.

That night it snowed a good 4-6 in, so we spent the following day inside hangin' with Huxley and the pups.

The next morning we woke up to 4-6in more of snow, but we headed down the hill to hike around Red Hills.

The next day we headed out to Murphy's with some friends for some wine tasting. One winery in particular, Ironstone, always has beautiful flowers during the spring.

Until next time!
